Well well well what a night to close out our 31st season of Port Credit Oldtimers Hockey.

Early game was our infamous ‘Kiss Your Sister’ Bronze medal match.  Our #1 seed Canada facing off against the #2 seed Poland.  These 2 squads met last week of round robin with Canada coming out on top 3-2.  All Polacks in the opening frame as they score 3 unanswered goals.  Exactly the same fate in the 2nd period as Poland takes a 6-0 lead into the final frame.  1-1 in the 3rd for a big Poland victory of 7-1.  Poland wins Bronze and know that kissing your sister is just OK.   Pat McCormick and Tony Carlisle get 2 goals for the Polish squad.  Singles go to Frank Nweisser, Bryon Wright and Kevin Nicholson.  Robin Chantaj got the lone Canadian goal.  Nobody visited Brenda for this one boohoo.  Players of the game went to both goalies, Canadian Frank Rispoli and Polands Art Senkowski.

Gold medal game was next as the upstart #4 seed USA was set to do battle with the playoff undefeated #3 seed Finland.  Our new Stanley Cup was unveiled to much excitement for this one.

PCOHL Cup 2018

Finlands Jimmy Maguire scored the lone goal in the opening frame.  USA Steve Sparrow tied up this game at 1-1 in the 2nd period.  Finland took back the lead early in the 3rd as Tim Randa scored a beauty.  USA tied it up again mid way through the 3rd as Dwayne Tygesen made it 2-2.  Frantic battles at both ends of the rink as the clock ticked away and ending this titanic tilt at 2’s after regulation time.  Both squads met at centre and mutually decided to play 4 on 4 for 5 minutes of running time before a shoot out.  The crowd exploded with glee as more hockey was coming.  Monster saves at both ends as action was unrelentless.  Finlands Dan Barrett came out as the hero as he scored with 90 seconds left winning Finland a back to back Championship Gold.  Jubilation on the ice with the Fins but maybe our best ever Gold medal game.  Both squads went 0 for 1 on the power play.

Team Finland 2018

Players of the Game went to Finlands #5 Dan Barrett and USA #1 Gord Ide.

Our Conn Smythe winner as our Playoff MVP goes to Finlands #19 Steve MacDougall.  Steve a rookie this season led the league in playoff goals 10 and scoring 12 points.  Quite the first year for the big guy, congrats skinny Steven!!!!!!

Attached here is a season in review, enjoy.
