Ok our recap of our 2nd round of Playoff Games last night.

Early match between the Oilers and the Habs.  Oilers well rested and tanned ready to launch their bid for the Championship facing off against the Habs coming off their best effort of the season last week losing just 6-5 to the Bruins.  Opening 2 shifts may have been the highlight for the Habs in this tilt as the Oilers then controlled this one the rest of the way.  Oilers score 3 unanswered goals to open the game 3-0 after one.  The 2nd frame saw even more dominance from our regular season Champs with a 4-1 score and a 7-1 edge after 2 periods.  Oilers score their 8th early in the 3rd and many Oilers showed some class as they just shot the puck in the corner and not on net for a final victory of 8-1 and a loud message to the rest of the league that the Championship will have to go through Oiler country this season.  Oilers get 2 goals from Freeman and Randa and singles from Ianno, the game winner, Baratta, Cosentino and a beauty short handed effort from the Greek sensation Karabinis.  Rukavina ended the shut out bid for the Habs on goalie fill in McCallum who had a solid effort.  Oilers went 1-3 on the PP and Habs were 0-1.  Players of the Game went to Oilers #4 Rich the Commish Chalovich with a 3 assist effort and to Habs #8 Mark Woods with a nice job on defense.  Habs possibly played their worst game of the season after their best effort but after their 90 second game recap in the dressing room many laughs and cold beverages were heard coming from their room.

Late game was an interesting one as the Islanders faced off against the Bruins.  Islanders winning their last 2 times against these same Bruins and handily.  Bruins with a full squad and Islanders missing top forwords and defensemen for this key playoff match did not look good for them but you gotta play the game and what a game it was.  McCallum filling in for the injured Bobby Ide and playing his 2nd game of the night as well.  Bruins score the lone goal in the opening frame with 12 seconds left on the clock.  Islanders step it up in the 2nd and out score the Bruins 3-1 taking a surprising 3-2 lead into the final frame.  The first 10 minutes of the 3rd was shut out hockey at both ends until Brideau tied it up with 4:26 to go.  But their was no quit in these pesky short handed Islanders and they jump back in front as Carlisle made it 4-3 with 3:39 to go.  Bruins Guerra then goes on a strong rush and ties up the game again at 4’s with 75 ticks left on the clock.  And this one ends 4-4.  Bit disappointing for the Bruins and a big point for the Islanders in our playoff race.  Bruins get goals from Peacock, Sharp, Brideau and Guerra with the big one to salvage a point.  Islanders get 2 goals from Mr. April Fletcher, and singles from Carlisle and Salapoutis.  Islanders went 1-2 on the PP and Bruins went 0-1.  Players of the Game went to Bruins #4 Sal Guerra and Islanders fill in goalie Scott McCallum.  Great game.

This week we have our 3rd round of games going at Port Credit arena on Wednesday, April 1.  Early game puck drop drop is at 7:45 pm with Edmonton facing off against the Islanders.  Late game will start at 9:00 pm with Boston playing the Flyers.  Habs get the night off.

See you all on the ice!
