Last Friday we completed our 2nd round of our 5 round regular season.

The early game between Sweden and USA.  2 -1 Sweden after the opening period.  The Americans score the only goal in the 2nd sending this game all tied up at 2’s with a period to go.  USA took the lead at 10:35 of the 3rd.  Sweden tied it up at 8:43 mark but the pesky Americans came right back and scored at 5:42 up on top 4-3.  Swedes tied it up again with 4:23 left on the clock.  Swedes took the lead with just over 2 minutes left on a big bouncer from the point.  The Americans pulled their goalie and pressed but the Swedes scored an empty netter and won this tilt 6-4.  Good game at both ends of the pond.  Swedes went 0-1 on the PP and USA was 0-0.  USA goal scorers went to Tim Randa with 2, Dan Barrett with a single as well as Harve Mihalic who had a 3 point night.  Swedes got 2 goals from the very happy and less frustrated Joe Peacock and singles from Rinaldo, Thomas, Connell and Kelly with a beauty goal.  USA honoured #3 Harve Mihalic as their Player of the Game and the Swedes gave it to #14 Neil Kelly.  Don’t be calling Neil this week he has the hat and is going to be busy.  It looks like he is out on a 3 day pass!!!!

The late game was a doozy.  The winless Canadians facing off against the surging Polocks.  8 penalties and no power plays that means all were coincidental, the Xmas stress is starting to wear on the boys.  All toboggan and ski’s as Poland scored 2 unanswered goals in the 1st.  Canada got the lone goal in the 2nd making it a 2-1 lead for Poland after 2.  Canada was all over the Polocks but back stop from Warsaw, McCallum was maybe at his best stopping almost all pirogies shot his way.  More of the same in the final period as both goalies stood tall until the 2 minute mark when Canada tied it up.  But like Canada’s season the Polocks came right down the ice just 145 seconds later to score and take back the lead 3-2.  The bowed Canadian heads on the bench singled for their goalie to sit for the extra attacker and with 24 ticks left on the clock and for the 2nd time this season the mighty Red and white scored to tie up the game.  A massive celebration ensued to a frustrated Polish team heard saying “vee tied dose guys?????  gin dobrej!!!!”  Coffin, Flumerfelt and McCormick scored for Poland.  Julius, Cummings and Ronnie Chantaj with the tieing goal scored for Canada.  Both teams went 0-0 on the PP but 16 minutes were served, feisty.  Player of the Game for Canada went to #19 Gary Julius out 2nd oldest member to the Swedes Bruce Freeman who is 70.  WTF 70????  Yes sir and he had the Viking hat for a week with a big smile.  Poland Player of the Game goes to #1 Scott McCallum who may have played his best game of the season and will take his team honour home for the week.  Hope the garage isn’t too cold for you Scottie.
