Boys,

Last week was our 30th Championship Night.

The early game was our famous ‘Kiss your Sister’ Bronze Medal Match between the 3rd seed Swedes and the 4th seed Americanos!

Kiss your sister

All yellow and blue in the opening period as the Swedes jump out on top 3-1 after 1.  The nordic boys continue their strong play in the 2nd frame out scoring the USA 2-1 for a 5-2 lead.  No quit in the Americans as they score twice in the first 7 minutes to make this a 1 goal game.  Goalies Senkowski and Ide took over the final 8 minutes of this epic tilt and shut out all shooters.  Final Score Sweden 5 USA 4.  Swedes win the Bronze ‘Kiss your Sister” game.

Awww and his wife and the cutest baby girl were there to cheer Dady on.

The Oldtimer Stanley Cup was next.  As the almost perfect Finland season, only one miscue vs the Americans, looked to cap off their record breaking season with Gold.  But in front of them was the Sand Bagging Canadians.  The Canuckleheads finished dead last after the regular season but got hot in the playoffs and were looking to shock the world in the final game of our 30th season.  The opening frame was tense and only one goal scored for the Finns.  The 2nd period Finland flexed their mighty muscle and took it to the Canadians scoring 3 unanswered goals.  2 of which were short handed too and that just took the wind out of the red and white.  Finland made it 5-0 early in the 3rd.  Canada got on board with 2 quick goals with 5 minutes gone but Finland scored again making it 6-2 game.  Both teams got 1 more goal each and Finland wins the Gold with a solid 7-3 effort.

Some unnecessary commotion at the end was not good to see.  Finland went 0-2 on the PP but scored 2 short handed goals.  Canada was 0-1.  Canada got goals from Tom Marshall, Denis Desrosiers and Leo Brideau.  Finland got 2 goals each from Joel May and Marcelo Diluzio and singles from Joe Cosentino, Brian Spence and Murray Barrett.  Players of the Game went to Finlands Joel May and to Canada’s Bobby Ide.

Our final individual award was a unanimous choice as Finlands Dr. Joel May wins the Conn Smythe Award for Playoff MVP.  Congrats Mr. May.  Well deserved as I saw the short handed goal he scored and it was a beauty!!!!
