Week 19 Recap

Recap from last Friday nights games, two nail biters that’s for sure.

Early match between Finland and Poland.  Poland out scores the Fin’s 2-1 after the opening period.  The 2nd period saw both squads score once with Poland out front 3-2 with a frame to go.  Finland tied it up mid way through the 3rd and both goalies then took the game over as they shut out all shooters the rest of the way.  Final score 3-3.  Finland went 0-2 on the PP and Poland was 0-1.  Poland got 2 goals from Joe ‘Speedy’ Cosentino and a single from Frank ‘Pork Chop’ Arruda.  Finland got all 3 goals with the hat trick going to team leader Dwayne Tygesen.  Players of the Game went to Polands backstop Art Senkowski and for Finland Dwayne Tygesen.

Late game between the rested Swedes and surging Canada.  2-1 for the Swedes after the 1st period.  Sweden scored 4 times in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd as Canada had only one goal for a Sweden lead of 6-2 with 10 minutes still on the ticker in the 2nd.  Canada stormed back big time for the rest of the 2nd period scoring 4 unanswered tieing this tilt up at 6’s after 2 periods in the books.  Both squads stepped up defensively in the final frame.  Canada scored at the 7 minute mark in the 3rd taking its first lead of the match.  Sweden tied it up with just under 4 minutes to go.  KALUUUUUZZZZNNNYYYYY!!!!!  And this bad boy finished all squared up at 7-7.  Quite the roller coaster game.  Canada went 1-1 on the PP and Sweden was 0-0.  Sweden got 2 goals each from Leo Brideau, Eric Fletcher and Steve Kaluzny and a single from Joe ‘Handsome’ Peacock.  Canada got 4 goals from Patrick ‘On Fire’ Sharp and singles from Robin Flumerfelt, Kevin Nicholson and Rob McKean.  Players of the Game went to Sweden’s Steve Kaluzny and to Canada’s Patrick Sharp scoring 4 times and now leads the race for the Rocket Richard trophy with 20 goals passing USA Diluzio.  When did he get soooo fast???????

Next weeks games will be big ones.  Friday, January 31 at 9:15 pm USA will face off against Sweden.  Both teams are tied for 1st place and will meet again the final night of the regular season.  At 10:30 pm Canada will play Poland and that too is a big game as basically 3 teams are tied for 3rd spot.  Can anyone stop Mr. Sharp?????   Finland will have the week off.  This will be the last night of Round 4 of our regular season.

We have sold out of our $10 squares for the Super Bowl and have begun selling a new sheet at $5 a square.  Mark Plewes will be around this Friday looking to sell out of our $5 square sheet so bring your dollaro’s and help support our league.

Week 18 Recap

Last weeks games recap

Early match between Finland and Canada, a good one.  Canada stormed out 3-1 after the first period.  Second period saw both squads scored once.  Final period again saw both teams scoring twice each for a final Canada victory of 6-4.  Finland went 0-1 on the PP and Canada was 0-0.  Goal scorers for Canada, all singles, Robin Flumerfelt, Rob McKean, Pat Sharp, Robin Chantaj, Pat McCormick and Bryce Lewis.  For Finland 2 goals from Tim Randa and singles from Ron Cormier and Dwayne Tygesen.  Players of the Game went to Finlands Ron Cormier and for Canada Frank Rispoli.  Does he look retired????

Late game between USA and Poland.  All Trumpsters in the 1st as they out score Poland 3-1.  USA got the lone goal in the 2nd period.  Poland out scored USA 2-1 in the 3rd period but not quite enough as USA takes this one 5-3.  Poland went 0-1 on the PP and USA was 0-0.  Poland got 2 goals from Frank Arruda and a single from Alan Robb.  USA got 2 goals from both John Annan and Peter Freeman and a single from Ron Chantaj.  Players of the Game went to USA John Annan and for Poland Frank Arruda.

This weeks games on Friday, January 24 at 9:15 Poland vs Finland and at 10:30 Canada vs Sweden.  USA get the week off now sitting on top of the standings all alone after 5 straight victories.

Don’t forget to get your Super Bowl squares as only a few are left.  $10 per square.  Mark Plewes will be around selling final squares this week.

Week 17 Recap

Ok Friday night games recap.

Early match between Sweden and Poland.  Poland actually had 13 players dressed, a first this season.  All Swedes in the 1st period as they score 3 unanswered goals.  Sweden backstop McCallum played a big part of that as Poland out shot the Swedes in that 1st period.  Sweden out scores Poland 3-2 in the 2nd for a 6-2 lead.  Final frame saw both squads score 3 times for a Sweden victory of 9-5.  Both teams went 1-1 on the PP.  Poland got a hat trick from team sponsor Frank Nweisser and singles from Frank Arruda with a Phil Esposito goal and Joe Cosentino.  Sweden got a hat trick from the svelte Brian Burke (on fire!!!!) and singles from Sal Guerra, Enzo Ianno (thanking the gods again), Eric Fletcher, Leo Brideau, Steve Kaluzny, and the very handsome Joe Peacock.  USA player Marcelo Diluzio was messing with Joe as he was taking selfies in the crowd during Swedens game.  wtf?????

Players of the Game went to Swedens Brian Burke and to Polands Frank Nweisser.

Late game was a battle of the Barrett Brothers and a battle of the Freeman brothers and almost the Ide brothers as well as USA faced off against Finland.  Sounds like a Jerry Springer episode.  Good attendance on both squads for this one.  Mike Jende filling in for the absent Bobby Ide.  USA 3 Finland 2 after the 1st period.  Finland scored both goals on the PP and USA had a short handed marker there.  USA 2-1 in the 2nd for a 5-3 lead after 2 frames.  Finland pushed the Americans in the final frame out scoring them 2-1 but not quite enough as USA wins this great brotherly battle 6-5.  Finland went 2-4 on the PP and USA was 0-2.  Finland got all single goals from Tim Randa, Tim Martins, Brian Spence, Tony Carlisle and Jay Cummings.  USA got 2 goals from league leader Marcelo Diluzio and singles from Peter Freeman, Dan Barrett, Steve Ferrin and Murray Disco Russell.  Players of the Game went to Finlands Tony Carlisle and to USA Marcelo Diluzio.

Next weeks games Friday, January 17 are as follows 9:15 Canada vs Finland and at 10:30 Poland vs USA.  Sweden gets the week off.

Plewsie will begin selling Super Bowl Squares Friday, January 10.  $10 per square, hurray and get yours because once they are gone they are gone.  This years Super Bowl is Sunday, February 2 in Miami.

Week 16 Recap

Early game to open 2020 between Canada and USA.  All Canucks in the 1st taking a 2-0 lead.  Second period saw both squads score twice with Canada on top 4-2 after 2.  Canada scored early in the 3rd taking a 5-2 lead.  Then the mighty Americans turned on the jets and scored 5 unanswered goals to win this one 7-5.  A massive comeback.  Canada went 0-1 on the PP and USA was 0-0.  Canada got a hat trick from Patrick Sharp and singles from Kevin Nicholson and Pat McCormick.  USA got all singles from Ron Chantaj, Johnny Fasulo, Joel May, Johnny Ridge, Dan Barrett, Marcelo Diluzio and Steve Atchison.  Players of the Game went to Canada’s Patrick Sharp and for USA Ron Chantaj.  Great hockey game.

Late game between Sweden and Finland was a nail biter too.  Both teams scored twice each after one period.  2nd period saw singles from both squads for a 3-3 tie after 2.  Sweden scored early in the 3rd to take the lead and then scored again mid way through the 3rd, up 5-3.  Finland gets one back just under a minute to go and a full press as 5 bodies were visiting Brenda.  Swedens McCallum shut the door and Sweden wins 5-4.  Finland went 1-2 on the PP and Sweden was 0-1.  Finland got 2 goals from Ron Cormier and singles from Tim Freeman and Jay Cummings.  Rookie Tim Freeman had a 4 point night and his Pops Bruce had 3 assists, impressive.  Sweden got 2 goals from Eric Fletcher and singles from Leo Brideau, Mike Rukavina and Joe Peacock.  Players of the Game went to Finlands Gordie Ide and for Sweden the big return of their emotional leader Brian Burke.

Next weeks games goes Friday, January 10, 2020 at 9:15 pm Sweden plays Poland.  At 10:30 pm Finland skates with USA.  Canada get the week off.
