Early Game – Slovenia vs Portugal

Portugal comes into this game looking to break a two-game losing skid and grab a piece of 2nd place, while the Slovenians look for their 3rd win in a row.

Substitute keeper Nieminen for Portugal and Rispoli the Goalie for the Slovs keep this thing TIGHT for the first period. Not a goal to be had against either backstop in frame one.

Slovenia broke the ice five minutes into the second period when veteran Jim Maguire solved the Nieminen puzzle and put his squad up 1-0. But this seemed to put a fire under the Finnish Fence as he was perfect from that point on. Mike Russo tied the game in the second with a nifty move on Rispoli and the third period was ALL PORTUGAL. Two goals of the blade of rookie sensation Don Hambly and a wristy raiser by handsome Joe Peacock to seal this one with a minute to go — 4-1 for the Portuguese.

Late Game – Italy vs Ireland

Italy and Ireland are both under-performing teams so far this year based on their rosters. Both teams looking to turn their franchises around in the Haloween late show.

No suspense here folks, it was ALL IRELAND. 4-0 after the first period with Irish goals from Peter McKay, Steve Atchison, and two from sniper Patty Sharp.

The second period was scoreless, Arty Senkowski going to school on the barrage from frame 1, but the Irish came back in the third with three more goals from Jeff Boulton, Joel May, and Peter McKay for his second of the night.

Against this Irish assault the Italians could manage only a single from Rick Cecchetto to spoil Nieminen’s shutout. Some nights go that way. Look to Italy to come storming back with a chip on their shoulder next week against the Portuguese.

Ireland Player of the Game goes to Peter McKay who went surgical on Senkowski. And team rep Kostick is the pride of the Italian side with this re-run of Koach Kostick’s Korner.
