Week 14 Recap (December 19 Games)
Early Game – Scotland vs Slovenia
The Early Game featured 2nd place Scotland against 3rd place Slovenia, both teams showing some promise lately and looking to add 2 points.
Rick Gunther gets things going halfway through the first period followed by teammate Dave Vincelli 30 seconds later. But for that, the goalies were perfect. 2-0 for Slovenia after one period.
The second period was a complete reversal on the first. Scotland gets two goals (John Annan and Brad Stoll) and keeps the Slovenians off the scoreboard. All tied up at 2 after two.
Both teams battled fiercely for the winner in period three but nobody battles harder than Former Hart Trophy winner Greg Platt, and his unassisted goal at the midway point decided this one in Slovenia’s favour.
Slovenia’s Player of the Game was Frank “The Goalie” Rispoli who kept the league’s highest-scoring team to a measly two goals. Scotland gives Enzo Ianno the honours with a strong defensive effort.

Late Game – Ireland vs Portugal
Portugal met Ireland in the late show, both teams missing some key players, including Portugal’s goalie Tony Cioffi. Arty Senkowski gives up his day off to come help the Lisbonites out.
Murray “The Hustle” Russell broke the ice halfway through the first period by jumping on a Nieminen rebound. Then rookie sensation Don Hambly doubled Portugal’s lead with an unassisted laser over Nieminen’s shoulder. 2-0 after two.
Arty Senkowski continued his lights out hockey, reminiscent of his Conn Smythe performance in last May’s championship game against these same Irish, while Hambly picked up his second and Flumerfelt added a fourth. 4-0 for Portugal after two.
Tight defence marked the third period with Peter McKay spoiling Arty’s shutout in the final minute. This one ends as a 4-1 Portgual victory.
Substitute goalie Arty Senkowski is the no-doubt POG for POR while Dwayne Tygesen is the pride of Dublin, stoic in victory, win or lose you still…choose a POG and it’s Dwayne for the second week in a row.
