Well well well just when you think u know everything the opposite happens.  Heres how it played out last week our end of our regular season games.

Early match between the Oilers and the Flyers.  Oilers with only 8 skaters needed to recruit a couple of guys and they pick up Kryslak and McCormick from the idle Habs.  Oilers would secure top seed with a victory.  Kryslak opened the scoring for the Oilers and 2 more early goals made it 3-0 Oilers in the first 8 minutes.  The Flyers score twice in one shift to close out the opening frame with the Oilers on top 3-2.  Oilers score the loan goal in the 2nd for a 4-2 lead and just 15 minutes away from securing the top seed.  Flyers come out strong in the 3rd and score 3 straight goals taking a 5-4 lead with 8:24 to go.  Oilers tie it up minutes later.  Oilers decide to pull their goalie with the game tied at 5’s and Flyers capitalize and score the winner and upset the Oilers with their 3rd straight victory to end their regular season.  Oilers went 1-2 on the PP and Flyers were 0-0.  Flyers got goals from Kostick, Ree, May, Rundle and 2 from Tygessen who had a big night with 5 points.  Oilers get goals from Cosentino and Kryslak and a hat trick from the Commich Chalovich, is that correct?????  Players of the Game went to Flyers Joel May and Oilers Richard Chalovich with his 4 point night.

Late game between the Bruins and the Islanders now had some meaning as the Oilers held only a 1 point edge on the Bruins. A tie or Bruin win would give the golden boys the top seed and next week off.  Bruins missing their top guy Brideau but the rest of the squad was ready and jacked to go. Islanders needed to pick up a few guys just to reach their min 10 skaters and scooped up Dan Barrett and Ronnie Chantaj to play with their brothers on the Islanders. All islanders in the opening frame as they out score the stunned Bruins 4-1 right out of the gate.  Annan, Dan Barrett and 2 from Jackes.  McKean for the Bruins.  The 2nd period just saw 1 goal scored on the Bruins side as Guerra made it 4-2 Islanders with one period to go.  The final frame saw the Ide brothers both battle it out as they shut out all shooters and the Islanders win a huge game to end their season and play spoiler for the Bruins from capturing that top seed.  Dan Barrett and Ronnie Chantaj didn’t know what the heck to do after the victory as both haven’t won a hockey game since October 2014.  Bruins went 0-2 on the PP and Islanders were 0-1.  Players of the Game went to Islanders #91 David Dupal and Bruins #30 Gorde Ide.

So congrats to the Oilers for finishing as our regular season Champions with a 14-5-1 record.  They also helped their backstop Frank Rispoli win the Vezina trophy with a league best 3.40 goals against record.  The Bruins finish 2nd and also celebrate having the league best scorer Rob McKean win the Art Ross trophy with 37 points.  A couple of other Team records were broken this season.  The Flyers finished the season with 46 penalty minutes a new record low, nicely done gals.  Habs now hold the futility record with least wins, most losses, least points and longest consequitive losing streak of 11 games.  That record may stand a long time.  Brideau, Cummings, Maguire and McKean will share the Rocket Richard trophy with most goals at 15 each.  McKean and Dan Barrett score the most assists with 22.  Robin Flumerfelt wins the Johnny Sparrow Belt for most penalty minutes of 28, Thomas has turned a new leaf.  Mihalic, Cummings and Burke lead the league with 3 game winning goals.  McKean led the league with 3 power play goals and Rukavina led the short handed category with 2.  Rookie crop this year turned out to be one of our best ever.  4 of the 6 rookies finished in the top 13 scorers in the league.  Dan Barrett and Marcelo Diluzio finished tied with 29 points each.  Peacock and Randa were not too far behind.

So all 5 teams are now tied for 1st place as the new season begins this Friday, March 20 with our Playoff round robin.  The early game at 9:15 will have the Bruins face off against the Habs and the late game at 10:30 will feature the Flyers and the Islanders.  The top seed Oilers get the week off and enjoy their March break.

See you all on the ice!
