PCOHL is honoured to announce our 2014-2015 Individual Award Winners

Art Ross – Leading Scorer – Boston Bruins Rob McKean

Rob wins his very first Art Ross Trophy this season with a stellar campaign.  Rob lead the league scoring most of the season and finished with 15 goals and 22 assists for a total of 37 points in 20 games played.  Rob consistently finishes in the top 10 league scoring each season but this year had a break out season leading the league ion both goals and assists.   Great skater and puck handler and always dangerous on the ice.   Job well done Rob!

Vezina – Best Goalie – Edmonton Oilers Frank Rispoli

Frank wins his 3rd career Vezina trophy and also back to back wins for Frank.  Behind a stellar Oiler defensive core Frank lead the league with a best 3.40 goals against average and for us schlepps on Friday nights that is very good.  Frank helped backstop his Oilers to a Regular Season best with a 14-5-1 record and looks to lead his Oilers to a Playoff Championship as well.  Frank a long time member of the league is a class act and exemplifies that you can get better with age.  Congrats to the Italian Stallion Frank Rispoli.

Hart – Regular Season MVP – Boston Bruins Leo Brideau

Leo wins his unprecedented 7th Hart Trophy in his 15th season in our league.  He is our Wayne Gretzky thats for sure.  Leo finished the season tied for 2nd in scoring with 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points in 15 games and some of those were on one knee.  Always a class act, great team player and really one of the most unselfish players we all know.  Although he would be the last guy to boast about his accomplishments he will most likely go down in our league as the all time very best player. Congratulations again Leo.

Calder – Best Rookie – Montreal Canadians Dan Barrett

This year we had one of our best rookie crops we have seen in many years.  It was a difficult decision and our eventual winner went to rookie Dan Barrett of the Habs.  Dan finished 3rd in overall scoring in the league and tops as a defensemen with 7 goals and league best 22 assists for a 29 point rookie season in 17 games.  His better looking brother Murray on the Islanders says he taught him everything he knows.  Dan very similar to Brideau is a class act and also a very unselfish player and would look to pass the puck before scoring almost on all plays.  An effortless skater Dan looks to continue a stellar career in the PCOHL.  Well done Dan.

Norris – Best Defensemen – Boston Bruins Tony Thomas

Ah yes, Tony wins his very first Norris trophy in the PCOHL.  This season we had many strong defensive performances from the usual bunch of bandits and some new players but Tony, a fiery competitor, consistantly finishes near the top in scoring for defensemen. This season was no exception as he had 6 goals and 19 assists for a 25 point campaign, 2nd highest amongst defensemen.  Tony relinquished his penalty minute crown this season and if it wan’t for his minutes in the season opener he would have not even shown up on the league leader page for time in the box.  Maybe getting older is just the thing for Tony or maybe he and Brenda have had a tiff???  Bottom line less time in the box means trouble for all opponents when Tony is on the ice.  Congratulations Mr. Thomas.

Ahhhhh a picture is worth a thousand words!!!!

Selke – Most Improved – Philadelphia Flyers Tim Rundle and Boston Bruins Gary Julius

Shared winners this season for the Selke as both these players came back from serious injuries that kept them out for almost all of the previous season.  Flyers Rundle finished this campaign 3rd in scoring on his squad with 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points.  Bruins Julius had his best campaign in many years also 3rd on his high flying Bruins with 8 goals and 19 assists for 27 points.  Gary or as we know him Dad is the 2nd oldest member in our league and Tim, no spring chicken himself, can almost truly call Gary Dad.  Both always feisty on the ice and never give up on a puck or a shift.  Well deserved accolades for these 2 fine individuals, congrats Tim and Gary.

Rocket Richard – Most goals scored – Boston Bruins Leo Brideau and Rob McKean, Philadelphia Flyers Jay Cummings and Montreal Canadians Jim Maguire

First time in this category we had more than one player with most regular season goals.  Leo, Rob, Jay and Jim all finished with 15 goals this season and all can definitely put the biscuit in the basket on most nights.  Nicely done gentlemen.

On behalf of all of us in the PCOHL family we would like to extend our congratulations to all of this seasons individual award winners.  The final award, the Conn Smythe, our Playoff MVP will be announced after our Championship Night.  We have winners from all 5 teams so not sure what the rule is but I think the drinks are on these lads.
