Boys,

We are off and running for our 32nd season of Oldtimers Hockey!!!!  All stats now updated on our website with our first 2 weeks in the books.  2 ties and 2 1 goal games…if we can keep that up all year it would be FANTASTIC the ultimate parity challenge of all time haha.

Week #1 Early match between Sweden and Finland, the Scandinavian battle royale.  Tight opening frame as Sweden led 2-1 and then scored with 5 ticks left on the clock for a 3-1 lead after 1.  2 more unanswered goals in the 2nd period taking a 5-1 lead into the final frame.  Finland scored early but Sweden followed that up a minute later.  Finland pressed and made it 6-3 with 4 minutes to go.  Then scored again with 90 ticks left to make it 6-4.  Finland on slaught continued as they scored with less than 30 seconds to go making it a 6-5 game.  And thats how this one finished, so exciting.  Finland just needed another couple of minutes in this game as Sweden, backed up on their heels, hung on to win the opening tilt.  Sweden got a hat trick from the speedy Joe Cosentino and singles from Billy Lott, Peter Freeman and Dwayne Tygesen.  Finland got 2 goals off the wood of Dr. Joel May and singles from Steve MacDougall, George ‘the other Greek’ Letsos and Robbie Leenaars.    Both squads went 0-1 on the PP.  Our Pump Players of the Game went to Sweden’s #14 Joe Cosentino and Finlands #15 Joel May.

Late game between the hot rivals of Canada vs USA.  1-1 after the opening frame.  All Canuckle heads in the 2nd as they took a 3-1 lead into the 3rd.  All Trumpsters in the final frame as they scored twice closing out this very close game with a 3-3 tie.  Canada goal scorers went to Brent Byer, Eric Fletcher and Paul Harty.  Americans got goals from Rob McKean, Jay Cummings and Timmy Randa.  Both teams went 0-1 on the PP.  Players of the Game went to Canada’s #1 Art ‘still upset he got traded from Poland‘ Senkowski.  USA honoured #12 George ‘the original Greek’ Karabinis.  Ahhh welcome back Georgie!

Week #2 Early Game between Finland and USA.  All Finn’s in the first scoring 2 unanswered goals.  The 2nd period saw both teams battle to a 2-2 draw but kept the Finn’s ahead 4-2 after 2.  Americans made it a 1 goal game scoring with 4 minutes to go.  A big USA push shut down by temp backstop Mike Jende for the Finn’s closed this one down with Finland winning 4-3.  Finland got 2 goals from last years Conn Smythe winner, rookie sensation Steve MacDougall and singles from Tony Carlisle and Joel May.  USA got 2 gaols from Ron ‘Gordie’s Masseuse‘ Cormier and a single from Timmy Randa.  USA was 0-2 on the PP and Finland 0-0. Players of the game went to Finland temp goalie Mike Jende and to USA #15 Ronald Cormier.

Late game last week between Sweden and Poland starting their new season.  Sweden had a mysterious flu bug go through their team and needed a couple of call ups for this one.  1-0 Sweden after 1.  The blonde haired Swedes took a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd. Polocks scored twice to tie it and just before the 2nd period expired the Swedes took back the lead 3-2.  The Polock’s looked fresh and scored early in the 3rd tieing up this tilt at 3’s.  A battle at both ends the rest of the way but seasoned veterans and I use the term loosely, Bobby Ide and Frank Rispoli stood tall and wide and shut both squads out the rest of the way.  Final score 3-3.  Sweden got goals from Peter Freeman, Dwayne Tygesen and fill in Steve MacDougall.  Poland got goals from David Dupal, Marcello Diluzio and Mike Rukavina scoring off of Rispoli’s ASS bahabaha.  No visitors to see Brenda in this one.  The obvious Players of the Game went to both goalies Sweden’s Frank Rispoli and Poland’s Bobby Ideski.

So we are off and running.  Please let your teammates or team reps know if you will be away so we can make sure we have 10 skaters for every game.

This weeks games will be our Turkey Gobble Gobble Thanksgiving Special on Friday, October 5.  9:15 pm Poland vs USA and our 10:30 pm game will feature Finland vs Canada.  USA gets the week off.
