Early Game – #3 Slovenia vs #4 Scotland

The red hot Slovenians were looking for their 4th consecutive win against a Scotland team that seems to get better by the week. But Slovenia was just too strong in this one with 5 unanswered goals in the first two frames.

Scotland never gave up though, scoring 3 in the 3rd, but giving up the same for an 8-3 final. Slovenia takes their fourth in a row off the hot sticks of Paul Riopelle with 4 goals and Dwayne Tygeson with the hatty. Head Slovenian in Charge Dave Dodic rounded out the scoring with a single.

Scotland’s 3rd period heros were Brad Stohl, Patty Sharp and Steve Boyle.

Slovenia will go for 5 in a row next week against a strong and rested Italian squad while Scotland looks to stay above the surging last place lads from Lisbon.

Slovenia’s Player of the Game goes to the whirling dervish Johnny Fasulo.

Late Game – #1 Ireland vs #5 Portugal

First place versus last place in the late game. Surely this was Ireland’s chance to break their 3-game losing skid.

No, and don’t call me Shirley. The languishing leprechauns were never ahead in this one, letting down their backstop Henderson once more against a feisty Portuguese team hungry to crawl out of the basement. Team MVP Greg Platt led the way for Portugal with a hat-trick. Dave Wodar, Jeff Boulton and Mike Rukavina added singles.

Deware, Randa and Flumerfelt scored Ireland’s only goals, ending their 3rd round campaign 0-4 after a 4-0 first round. What is up with this team? From Paddy’s to Patsies in a few short weeks. Still clinging to a share of 1st place by their fingernails, they better turn it around quickly or they’ll be in cargo pants on Championship Day.

Ireland has Christmas week off to lick their wounds and draw up some new plays while Portugal plays Scotland to break the tie for last spot in the standings.

Portugal’s Player of the game was the two-way terror, Greg Platt.
