Big night last night, one close one and one NOT!!!! Early match between #1 Scotland and the surging #4 Slovenia was a beaut! 1-1 after one period. Slovenia scores the lone goal in the 2nd taking a 2-1 lead after 2. A real goaltenders dual in this one as both backstops played extremely well. Scotland tied it at 2’s at the 10 minute mark. Slovenia scored twice with 4 and 2 minutes to go. Scotland got a late one back and this one finished with Slovenia winning 4-3. All 4 Slovenia goals from rookie sensation Chris Deware. Scotland got 2 goals from blue liner Steve Sparrow and a single from Bryon Wright. Both squads went 0-1 on the PP. Players of the Game went to Slovenia’s Chris Deware.

And for the Scots 2 guys awarded rightfully so, Steve Sparrow and Tomi Nieminen. Rock Paper Scissors on who got the cool hair and hat hahah.

Late game was a must win for the Portuguese as they faced off against the #2 seeded undefeated Italians who had a full squad for this one. The Pork Chops had a slew of injuries, some played through it and some could not. 4-0 for the Italians after 1 frame. 6-0 after 2 and much more the same in the 3rd as the Italians put a pasta spanking on the Pork Chops 8-1. Alan Robb got the lone goal for the Portuguese. Italy got 2 goals each from Marcello Di Luzio and Jodie Young. Singles from Rob McKean, Dwayne Tygesen, Jeff Boulton and David Dupal. Zero visits to Brenda in this one. Player of the Game went to Portugals Joe Peacock who played with a terrible leg injury he sustained at the corner of Dixie and Dundas.

And for the Italians their trade deadline acquisition Robbie McKean.

So this Monday we play, April 17 at PC arena. 9:00 the 0-2 Scots play the 0-2 Portuguese. And at 10:15 the rested Irish will do battle with Slovenia. Italy gets the week off. Then we are off next weekend due to the Figure Skaters gala event and play our final round robin games Friday, April 28. Here is what we know as of this morning. Both Portugal and Scotland have been eliminated from the Gold Game and are battling to play in the Kiss your Sister Bronze game and avoid being this years Schlepp Champions. Italy and Slovenia have guaranteed a spot in Championship day but not yet confirmed for which game. Slovenia needs a tie or a win vs Ireland on Monday to lock their spot in the Gold game. Italy needs a win vs Scotland on the 28th to lock their spot for Gold. Ireland can also get to the Gold game with 2 wins BUT Ireland can also be our Schlepp Champion with 2 losses. So much more to decide, after Monday we should have a clearer picture. Friendly reminder that all next seasons applications and $50 deposits are due no later than April 30 so get them in please. And if you will NOT be returning next season let us know as soon as possible. Also only sweaters need to be returned this year, keep the socks…you are welcome hahaha. If you know you will be away the weekend of the 28th hand your sweater to a teammate for collection. See you all on the ice lads!!
