Well after the first few weeks of nothing but red light sun burning on the back of our goalies heads, last Fridays games belonged to the goalies in 2 very close tilts.

Opening game between Edmonton and Boston saw an opening frame go scoreless.  Bruins jump out in front with the first 2 goals in the 2nd period.  Oilers get one back to close out the 2nd frame just one back.  Oilers ties up the match at 2’s with 5 minutes left on the ticker.  Oilers then take a 3-2 lead with 2:59 left on the clock.  Bruins then  score just 28 seconds later and tie up this one at 3’s.  And just the Oilers luck the Bruins get the game winner with 2 minutes to go.  McCallum filling in for Gordie and Rispoli making his season debut both were outstanding between the pipes and both rewarded as our PUMP Players of the Game.  Congrats Boys.  Oilers went 0-1 on the PP and Bruins went 0-2.  Goal scorers for the Bruins was Ianno, Karabinis, Wright and Annan.  For the Oilers Leenaars, ageless Freeman and Nelson.

Late game show cased the Habs and the rested Flyers.  As in the earlier game this one as well turned into a goaltenders duel.  McCallum playing his 2nd game in a row and Ervin for the Habs looking to help his squad to its first victory of the young season.  Flyers opened the scoring in the 1st but the Habs get a late goal squaring up the game at 1’s after 1.  Flyers get their one goal lead back early in the 2nd but these feisty Habs tie it up again in the final minute of the 2nd frame.  Habs take their first lead of the match in the 3rd period.  The rest of the way was paved by the mighty Barry Ervin as he stopped more than his normal share of shots as the Flyers pressed hard but as the final buzzer sounded a jubilant french squad celebrated the victory as they ended their 75 game losing streak.  Habs go 0-1 on the PP.  Goal scorers for the Habs were Randa, Rukavina and Thomas with the game winner.  For the Flyers Robb and Diluzio get the markers.  PUMP Players of the Game was awarded to obviously Montreal’s Barry Ervin (Cindy please award young Barry accordingly!!!!) and for the Flyers Dr. Joel May.  Ex Hab Dan Barrett showed some class as he personally delivered a cold beverage to ex teammate Rukavina in the dressing room, very nice!!

So this weeks games on Friday, October 9 are as follows;  9:15 Philadelphia vs NY Islanders and at 10:30 Montreal vs Edmonton, Boston get the week off.

See you all on the ice!
