On Easter Sunday evening we completed our Playoff Round Robin games and with so much at stake good crowds came out to watch.

Early game between the #1 seed Finland and #2 seed Poland.  Poland already eliminated from Championship night were playing for pride in their last game of this 30th season and with a win would send the Fins to the Bronze game and send the idle USA team to the Gold game.  Many Americans were out cheering on the Polocks in this big game.  The first period had much entertainment.  Finland opens the scoring early.  Poland ties up the game at 5:05 and then take the lead at 3:47.  The high flying Fins tie up the game at 2’s at 1:55 and thats how the 1st period ends.  Finlands top forward Diluzio and Polands top defensemen Chantaj both get ejected from the game before the opening period ends.  Drama now set for the final 2 frames.  Poland takes back the lead in the first 30 seconds of the 2nd.  Finland ties it up a minute later.  Finland go on top at 12:52 but the Polocks score twice to close out the 2nd on top 5-4.  Americans in the stands cheering wildly.  The tension was mounting through out the 3rd as the Fins tie up the game at 9:42 of the 3rd.  Action was heavy at both ends of the pond.  The idle Americans back stop Senkowski was filling in for the injured Finland Vezina goalie Rispoli was standing tall for the Fins.  And as the clock ticked off to zero this game ends in a 5-5 tie and vaults the #1 seed into the Gold game.  Poland went 0-3 on the PP and Finland went 0-1.  Finland got goals from Diluzio, Annan, Fletcher, May and Ianno.  Poland got 2 goals from McCormick and singles from Byer, Coffin and Robb.  Players of the Game went to Finlands #19 Enzo Ianno.

What happened to that Polish moustache?????

Late game between the #3 seed Sweden and the #5 surging seed Canada.  Sweden needing a tie or win to go for Gold and Canada needing a win to repeat what last years #5 seed Montreal did and go to the Gold game.  Both teams score twice in the opening frame.  All red and white in the 2nd period as they out score the Swedes 3-1 for a 5-3 lead going to the final period.  Tension on both benches as 15 minutes to play to decide their Championship night games.  The Ide brothers stood tall stopping all shooters.  Sweden get a late power play and score just as the penalty ends making it a 5-4 game with 90 ticks left on the clock.  Sweden pulls their goalie and push but an empty netter from Canada with 7 seconds to go closes out this tilt with Canada winning 6-4 and shocking the world head to the Gold medal game.  Canada went 1-1 on the PP and Sweden was 0-2.  Sweden got goals from Chamberlain, Peacock, Sharp and Cormier with a beauty.  Canada got 2 goals from Cummings and Desrosiers and singles from Julius and Kidd.  Players of the Game went to Swedens #15 Ron Cormier.

So all is set for this Friday, April 17 at Port Credit arena.  Our 30th season will come to an end with our Championship Night.

At 7:15 pm our infamous ‘Kiss your Sister’ Bronze medal game between the USA and Sweden.  Sweden won the regular season series with the USA 3-2.  Sweden also beat the Americans in the Playoff round robin game 5-3.  Should be a close one.

The 8:30 game will be for Gold as the #1 seed Finland will do battle with the #5 seed Canadians.  Finland went 4-1 vs Canada in the regular season (or as the Canadians say during the pre season, sand baggers!!!!) and Finland spanked the Canadians 8-2 in their Playoff round robin game BUT anything can happen.  Can Canada shock the world???  You gotta come out to watch it this Friday evening!!!

Reminder to bring your sweater and socks this week and try and make arrangements to pass onto a teammate if you know you will be away.  Also our deadline for applications and your $50 deposit to secure your spot for next season is due this Friday evening as well.  Either give to Gary Julius, any Exec or your Team Rep.  All apps and deposits go to Sal Guerra our Treasurer.  You can do your deposit through e-transfer to Sal as well.

See you all on the ice one last time!!!
