Second week of Round 2 in the books last Friday.

Early game between Poland and Sweden.  Both squads decimated with all their top talent on the shelf for this one, 10 skaters for the Polocks and only 9 for the Swedes.  Poland decided to mess with the Swedes by pulling their goalie for the first 5 minutes in this game.  Sweden very excited but failed to score on the Poland empty net.  Poland scores the only goal in the 1st.  Polices get 2 more early goals in the 2nd until the Swedes score off the face off in the dieing seconds of the 2nd frame.  The tired Swedes struggled in the final period as the Poles score 2 more goals for a final 5 to 1 victory.  Swedes went 0-1 on the PP and Poland was 0-0.  David Rinaldo scores the only goal for the Swedes.  Poland got 2 goals from both Dwayne Tygesen and Paul Barbosa (who by the way was looking for his last year bromance fav Old-timer Connell all game) and a single goal from Robin Chantaj.  Players of the game went to both back stops Polands Scott McCallum who did not have much work in the first 2 periods but stood tall in the final frame.  Swedes Gord Ide all smiles as usual kept this game close.

Late game felt like a Stanley Cup Playoff game between Finland and the USA.  Both teams scored in the opening frame.  Finland scored midway through the 2nd period taking a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes to go.  Shut outs for both squads in the final game and Finland wins its 4th straight game with a strong 2 to 1 victory.  USA went 0-1 on the PP and Finland 0-0.  Rob Leenaars scored the only goal for the Americans and Finland got goals from Steve Kostick and the game winner and league leader in goals as Eric Fletcher continues to flex his “putting the biscuit in the basket” prowess with his 7th goal of the campaign.  Deja vu as with he early game both goalies were named Players of the Game, Finlands Frank Rispoli and USA Art Senkowski.  Excellent hockey game.

This weeks games goes on Remembrance Day Friday, November 11.  9:15 the rested Canadians will meet top team Finland looking to win their 5th straight game.  10:30 Poland on a 2 game win streak will meet the Americans coming off a tough 2-1 loss with he Finn’s.  Sweden gets the week off and will work on their meatball recipes with a team bonding cooking session this week.

See you all on the ice boys!!!
