Late game looked to be a beauty as #1 Canada was facing off against the surging #2 Polocks.  Polish players were smiling in the pre game warm up as Canada’s top 2 forwards were not dressed for this big game.  Start cooking the victorious perogies was over heard on their bench early.  Canada scores the lone goal in the first period on a tightly fought battle.  The 2nd period saw Canada out score Poland 2-1 for a 3-1 lead after 2.  Canada goalie Rispoli looked real sharp in this one.  Rispoli continued his fine play through most of the final frame and was rewarded by his boys scoring their 4th goal with 5 minutes to go and an empty netter late for a huge character win 5-1 playing short handed.  Canada went 1-2 on the PP and Poland was 0-2.  Canada got a hat trick from rookie Tim Martins and singles from Enzo Ianno and Paul Harty.  Poland got its lone goal from Pat McCormick.  Players of the Game went to Canada’s rookie Tim Martins with a 4 point night.  Poland awarded Johnny Annan.

So 2 rounds in the books and Canada sits on top of the league with a 6-1-1 record.  Finland and Poland are tied for 2nd with 10 points.  USA bounce back with a big win and a record of 2-4-2 and 6 points.  Sweden just cannot get going and sit at the bottom of the pack with a 0-7-1 record.  Finlands Jimmy Maguire still leads in all scoring categories but USA Rob McKean is surging in 2nd spot.  Canada’s Paul Alloway a runaway rookie success is now out for an extended period with an upper body injury.  Fellow teammate and rookie Tim Martins is filling his shoes nicely.

Week 7 Recap

Last weeks games recap.  Early tilt between Sweden and Poland.  Both squads missing their top forwards and Swedish Backstop returning after a scary game last week all smiles and healthy once again.  3-1 for the Polocks after 1 period.  4-4 in the 2nd frame as Poland takes a 7-5 lead in to the 3rd.  Deja vu in the final frame as both squads score 4 times each for a final Poland victory of 11-9.  20 total goals ties our league record book for most goals in a single game held since the 2005 season.  Brenda was sure to run out of ink for this one.  Sweden was 1-3 on the PP and Poland was 0-0.  Swedish forward Flumerfelt apparently won a bet with a league buddy that he would go penalty free for his first 5 games and so he did.  Congrats to the lawyer for achieving this very difficult goal, just say no to drugs!!!!   What comes next is anyones guess haha.  Polish goal scorers,  4 goals for our officer of the law Kevin Nicholson, what???, 2 goals each for John Annan, Brian Burke, and Joe ‘best looking old-timer’ Peacock and a single for Eric Fletcher.  Sweden got 3 goals from their svelte sniper Patrick Sharp, 2 goals from Rukavina, and singles from Tony Thomas, Robin Flumerfelt, Brian Ree and Paul ‘Porkchop’ Tavares.  Players of the Game went to Polands Kevin Nicholson and to Swedens Brian Ree.  With Sweden off this week Mrs. Ree gets the horns for a full 2 weeks, oh boy!!!!  Brian why are the horns pointing down???  Call the doctor after 4 hours my friend.

Late game between USA and our top team Finland.  All light blue in the 1st as Finland scores 3 unanswered goals on a depleted American squad.  1-1 in the 2nd and 2-1 for the Fins in the 3rd for a final Finland victory of 6-2.  USA went 0-1 on the PP and Finland was 0-2.  USA got goals from Rob McKean and Sal Guerra.  Finland got 2 goals each from Jim Maguire, Jeffery Barkin and Timmy Randa.  Maguire held just to 2 points is on pace to score 80 this season which would blow away our single season record of 60 held by McKean.  A season to remember for the big guy.  Players of the Game went to Finlands Jeffery Barkin and to USA Paul Barbosa.

Week 6 Recap

Last Friday night kicked off our 2nd round of regular season games.

Early match between Canada and USA.  All Canada in the opening frame as they out score the Americans 5-2.  2nd period was even as both squads score 3 times as Canada takes a 8-5 lead into the final frame.  Canada was just too much for the Americans on this night as they score 2 more goals in the 3rd for a final victory of 10-5.  USA went 1-1 on the PP and Canada was 0-0.  Canada got balanced scoring as rookie sensation Paul Alloway and veteran Paul Harty got 2 a piece and singles from Tim Martins, Murray ‘Disco’ Russell, Robin Chantaj, Neil Kelly, Marcello Diluzio, and Enzo Ianno.  Americans got 2 goals from rookie George ‘don’t drop the soap’ Letsos, and singles from Steve Sparrow, Paul Barbosa and Joe Cosentino.  Players of the Game went to Canada’s Paul Harty and USA gave their POG to 2 scratched players Steve Kostick and Jodie Young BUT they brought the beverages so much deserved.

Late game was quite the event as Sweden faced off against Finland.  A Battle of #1 and #5.  All Fin’s in the opening frame as they scored 4 unanswered goals. Sweden scored early in the 2nd but Finland got that one back late in the 2nd for a 5-1 lead.  At that time Swedens goalie Bobby Ide was not feeling too good and asked for some help.  Now just note he had face 95 shots already and his teammates were unsure what was going on.  We helped him back to the bench where he continued to struggle and at that time we contacted 911 for help.  Fire and Ambulance arrived shortly after and took over.  Unfortunately no one had their cameras but Rukavina was telling Bobby he may have won the lottery as one of the ambulance employees was quite attractive.  Rukavina then tried to tell her he was not feeling well too but she ignored him and focused on Bobby.  The game was called at that time as they tested Bobby in the hallway and decided he was OK.  Back in the sombre Sweden dressing room all hell broke loose as nothing can be repeated on this public website.  Bobby was smiling though and all turned out well.  Most likely the fish tacos for lunch may have been the culprit or most realistically the 95 shots Sweden allowed on their ageless backstop was truly the cause. Enough was enough for Bobby.  Brian Ree got the lone goal for Sweden.  Finland rookies Peter Freeman got 2 gaols and Steve MacDougall, fully tanned from his trip to Mexico got a single.  Dan Barrett and Jim Maguire got singles as well.  Maguire with a 3 point night continues to tear up the individual scoring race.  Players of the Game went to Finlands Mark Plewes and Sweden honoured Bobby Ide.
